Commemorating Black History Month with the CSPM

    Black History Month Banner

February is Black History Month, and the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is proud to highlight the rich and complex Black History of the Pikes Peak region this month and throughout the year.

“We invite everyone to explore Black history at the CSPM all year through our exhibits, programs and virtual galleries,” said Leah Davis Witherow, CSPM Curator of History. “During this special month, we look forward to sharing more stories with the community and providing opportunities for them to delve deeper into Black History in Colorado Springs.”

    Cultural Corridor Banner Project

Black History Month Cultural Corridor Banners 2025

The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is pleased to work with Downtown Partnership’s charitable nonprofit affiliate, Downtown Ventures, to commemorate the leadership, vision, and accomplishments of African Americans throughout Colorado Springs’ history. The Cultural Corridor banners are on display along Pikes Peak Avenue between Cascade Avenue and Wahsatch Street. Throughout Black History Month, we’re honored to highlight these important stories which are also featured in the CSPM’s collection and exhibits.

Dave Sansone – Volunteer of the Month

Guide leads museum patrons around the CSPM's 50% exhibit.

Volunteer Dave Sansone gives a tour of the "50% of the Story" exhibit.

When we first met Dave Sansone, the February Volunteer of the Month, we were so taken by his kind spirit, eagerness to learn, and enthusiasm to support the work of the museum. Dave first trained as part of our newly formed Gallery Attendant team. He learned about the 50% of the Story: Women Expressing Creativity exhibit and practiced different ways to engage guests of all ages and interests in the space. He supported the museum during our grand reopening and was instrumental in defining and perfecting this new volunteer role.
