An Update on the Foundation and a Request

    for your Continued Support.

With the end of the year approaching, we want to give you an update on the Statue Project that will honor Colorado Springs's first woman Mayor Mary Lou Makepeace. The memorial is the first project of the "Colorado Springs Woman's Walk". Both projects are serious efforts to create lasting impressions recognizing, representing, and honoring the many women who contributed to building community in our hometown.

During her two terms as our Mayor, Mary Lou led many efforts at improving our hometown. The Downtown Masterplan, the "Springs Community Improvement Project", appointing our first female City Judge, "Ten Minutes with the Mayor", and the Mayor's 100 Teens project are examples of her concern for our community's direction and quality of life.

It has taken more than a year to get to where we are today. Site selection and City coordination, artist interviews and selection; setting up the Foundation, Fundraising, and other housekeeping tasks have this project in a really good place.

Above is a photo of the statue clay model, the maquette. Over the summer months, Mary Lou traveled to Loveland and posed for the artist Lori Kiplinger Pandy. We hope you like it. Lori is an accomplished sculptor with an anthology of creative works. To see her collection of work, please take the time to visit her website. Locally, you might recognize her work at the Pikes Peak Center. (Lori was the sculptor behind the Fannie Mae Duncan statue.)

This letter is the first of a year-long effort to bring the statue project to fruition. We have raised about 25 percent of our goal. Asking for "End of Year" support is traditional with nearly all community-minded efforts like ours. So, we ask you to please consider a year-end gift to the "Mary Lou Makepeace Foundation for Women Who Made Colorado Springs".

Your contirubtion is completely tax deductible. The IRS Determination letter can be provided upon request.

If you're inspired to help us reach our goal and make a real difference, we invite you to visit our website at https://makepeaceforwomen.org/, where you can easily click the DONATE button to make your commitment.

Prefer the traditional route? No problem! You can write a check made out to the "Mary Lou Makepeace Foundation" and mail it to 130 E. Kiowa Street, Suite 500, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Every contribution counts, and together, we can achieve something truly wonderful!

Thank you for helping us get this far. Onward and upward!

    Take 10 with the Mayor

"Take 10 with the Mayor" was a popular program started by Mayor Makepeace. It was designed to give members of the Community the opportunity to sit with the Mayor for 10 minutes to exchange ideas, ask for assistance with a problem, or simply for a photo opportunity.

The program ran throughout her time as Mayor. Hundreds of local residents took the opportunity to chat about an idea or a problem with the Boss.

This program along with Mayor’s 100 Teens were the most honest reflections of Mary Lou’s connection to our community, believing everyone should have a voice.
