Ah, June, thank you for this reassurance about community giving.
I was a little disillusioned by Silver Key's web site and Facebook page, which featured only white people, and asked Ms. Lorig (I believe that's her name) if Silver Key still serviced communities of color. She replied instantly that this is so and that Facebook is being updated, suggesting that I "friend" her, which I did. I weary of seeing so many Colorado Springs media presentations that are conspicuous by their absence of the inclusion of people of color. I have always intended to keep a list of the businesses featured in the Sunday Gazette with staff pictures of only Caucasians. (Haven't yet done so.) I feel that Colorado Springs is reverting to a projection as "Wonderbread City," which was so criticized years ago and which deterred so many businesses from relocating here.
(Another subject): A white friend of mine relayed that a show about Joe Williams is coming here in January (with, I believe, an all-Black cast). (The preceding space indicates a sigh of relief.) I'll be watching for it and hoping that Greg will be off so that we can go.
I don't get out much, but I will try to see the tree and the presents. Always know that you are my prime example of a caring and giving person. I will never forget your kindnesses.
Love and prayers....

Subject: Gift to Silver Key and other blessings.
------------ Dear Juanita & Greg:
Thank you so much for your generosity to Silver Key. Susan Harvey of the Urban League called my office Garden Apartments this week to say they had gifts for seniors from Silver Key. As you know I am part of a staff that manager subsidized HUD housing built by a man of color in our community, Gerald Bradshaw. Garden Apartments have senior tenants without family members within the city. We have seniors raising their children's children and seniors who are being cared for by their children.
To offer gifts to our senior residents is right up there with offering gifts to our resident's children. Colorado Prince Hall Foundation has for the second year in a row provided toys for Garden Apartment youngsters. We have a total of 104 children. Fifty five children ages 2-11 will receive Christmas gifts and 15 seniors will receive gifts at Garden Apartments because there are people in this community who care. It really makes me proud to see members of my community offering support to those less fortunate.
I just want to say publicly THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU.
P.S. If you are in the neighborhood of Verde Drive and S. Chelton next week, drop in and see our tree and the presents underneath it.
