> I have just talked to City Council member Sean Paige, and he is eager to partner with us in this venture. He is having a community meeting at the Deerfield Hills Community Center on Jan 20th @ 6:30. We discussed moving our January 20th meeting to that location. He would like to meet with all of us @ 6:00 and then we can present together as an united front. He would acts as our voice on City Council. He has several great ideas that we can also build on. His contact is spaige@springsgov.com or 719-337-0355. Feel free to contact him if need be. There is power in numbers.
Original message:
I have been working on a way to try to save our community centers. I am hoping that we can put our heads together and come up with a solution. I was also thinking on soliciting donations from our community to purchase these community centers to give our youth and seniors the continued services that they are receiving. I need your help, support, and prayers as we save our community. I know that some of you are not in the Springs, but this is where you grew up. If you are interested in hearing more, please contact me.

Next phase of Operation Save Our Community Centers is that I need three registered voters to become apart of the committee. The committee will present the initiative to the Deputy Clerk for the City to see if we can get approved to collect signatures. Once we collect 300 signatures the initiative will be voted on by City Council. If they vote yes then it will go on the next ballot. In the meantime, I need a persistent person to get in touch with Penelope Culbreth-Graft; she is the City Planner 719-385-5900. We need to talk with her regarding the purchase of Hillside and Deerfield Hills Community Centers in the event they close. I have talked to Donna Williams about having a Community Account at Security Service Federal Credit Union. Community members will be able to make donations to the account at their own discretion. I have contacted Aaron Smith of the Pittsburg Steelers regarding a donation. He is a Sierra High School graduate and grew up in the Deerfield Hills community. So we need to solicit as much help as possible. I have great media connections, which will help us. I will contact the Gay & Lesbian Fund on possibly getting a matching donation towards this effort. Let plan to meet January 20th at 6:00pm at the Sand Creek Library.
Yours in the Movement,
